Top FAQs on Lactoferrin

Spray drying and freeze drying are both commercially used for drying lactoferrin. Spray drying has a lower manufacturing cost, but it involves heat which may damage the functionality of the lactoferrin protein. Freeze drying uses lower temperatures so that the natural bioactivity of the lactoferrin is not compromised.

The lactoferrin molecule contains two iron binding sites. It is this iron that gives lactoferrin a characteristic salmon pink colour. Saputo’s specification for iron saturation is 8 20%.
